The Churchill Crown

The third type was struck just after the death of Sir Winston Churchill to celebrate his life in 1965. The portrait was the same Mary Gillick design used in the second type and the obverse inscription had changed to "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F·D· 1965". The reverse design was a portrait of Churchill in his latter years with the inscription "Churchill" going down the right hand side of the coin. Churchill's bust is modelled on a bust by the artist Oscar Nemon.

Sir Winston Churchill Crown struck soon after his death to commemorate the life of one of the greatest statesmen Britain has ever known.
